Resurfacing work begins on Main Road in Claremont and Diep River

19 March 2026

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has started doing major resurfacing work along Main Road in Claremont and Diep River, aimed at improving road quality and traffic flow. The work is scheduled for completion by Thursday, 30 April 2026. Construction is currently under way in two daily shifts from 09:00 to 15:30 and again from 20:00 to 05:30. The work shifts happen from Monday to Saturday to accelerate delivery while limiting daytime disruptions.

‘The roadworks that are currently being done in Claremont and Diep River include repairs to restore the road and surrounding infrastructure. This will involve isolated relaying of kerbs and channels where settlement has occurred, as well as removing and replacing the existing road surface. I would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience as we work on this important project that ensures that we keep Cape Town moving on good quality roads,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The details of the affected road segments in Claremont and Diep River:

  • Claremont: Between Old Stanhope Road and Wilderness Road along Main Road
  • Diep River: Between Greenfields Road and Hiddingh Road along Main Road

  • New road markings will be applied to enhance safety and visibility, and selected sections of the sidewalk will be resurfaced to improve pedestrian access and overall condition.
